Kitchen Renovations
Our most affordable kitchen renovation is a general makeover where we remove everything in the existing space and replace it with new.
The most frequent renovation we perform is a reconfiguration of the existing space (moving or adding cabinetry, appliances, and fixtures.
Our last option is a structural renovation which includes reconfigurations and adding or removing walls and/or windows and doors.
Home Additions
Home Additions can include adding a second or third floor (sometimes called a home top up addition), extending a first floor, adding a kitchen family room to the back of the home, or extending the front of the home to enlarge the foyer and adding a powder room.
A reconfiguration of other spaces of the home is also part of the home addition process, such as providing open concept or subdividing spaces to be more formal for privacy.
Basement Renovation
Many budget-conscientious clients as well as growing families require a basement renovation to be more functional than in the past. This could include an in-law suite, a multi-generational suite, space for teenagers, music rooms, second kitchens, and home offices.
Other clients are looking for extra rental income and come to us to convert their basements into highly functioning, high-quality rentals and Airbnb.
We are experts at waterproofing, underpinning, sump pumps, drains, backflow preventers/backwater valves, basement walkouts, basement insulation, heated floors, and future-proofing your home.
Bathroom Renovations
Our bathroom renovations are very similar to the kitchen renovations we offer. Removing everything in the bathroom and replacing it with new is considered a general makeover.
Bathroom renovations that require moving fixtures such as a toilet location or removing a bathtub and expanding a shower are an example of bathroom reconfiguration.
A structural bathroom renovation involves adding or removing walls to create a more functional space such as adding a double vanity and a separate water closet with a two-person shower, adding a steam shower, or soaker tub.
1st Floor/2nd Floor Renovation
Homeowners love our renovation experience and design excellence when they want to renovate a full floor renovation which could be one of both first and second floors. Typically first-floor renovations occur when our clients want to modernize the first floor by adding a powder room, family room, mudroom, foyer, and home office. To keep the design consistent during the first floor renovation, we are very often requested to renovate the second floor.
Second floor renovations usually entail better storage, more closets second-floor laundry rooms, expanded bathrooms, a den/entertainment room, and a private ensuite. Surprisingly, we find that relocating the stairs allows for better space planning.

What our clients are saying
Tama S.
Harvey and his team at First Place did some renovations to our first home. They did the most amazing job. They were professional, on-budget, and most importantly on time! We have recently moved and are now using Harvey and his team for further renovations on our home!
Jennifer Z. & Russell L.
“ First Place turned the house we had been living in for 20 years into our dream home! Our house backs onto a tree-filled park so we didn't want to move. This was a complicated job as it entailed removing structural walls to open up the main floor. Harvey and his team did a spectacular job.
Part-way through the renovation, we decided to expand the scope to update the entire house in addition to the main floor. First Place went above and beyond to work with us and our architect to make that happen. The result is a stunning contemporary home that features all glass in the back, bringing the nature of the park into our home”
Greig G.
“I have worked with Harvey on two major projects at our home. A full renovation of our entire four-floor home and a subsequent basement renovation a few years later. In both instances, it was a pleasure to work with him. His professionalism and proactive attitude helped to calm our nerves throughout the experience. Harvey has a unique attention to detail and ensures that the project is completed fully without any small items to chase.”
Alstair R.
“Through the years, I have used Harvey and the First Place team for my house, townhouse, and condo renovations. His thoroughness, flexibility, creativity, idea generation, and leadership were evident throughout. Each of my renovations has been seamless. Not only have I trusted him with my own homes, I now use him with my interior design clients!”
